Fred Willard, comic star well-known for his roles in “This Is Spinal Tap“, “Waiting for Guffman” and “Best in Show“, died on Friday at the age of 86. Glenn Schwartz, Mr.Willard’s Representative, confirmed his death to Rolling Stone announcing he died of natural cause. Rolling Stone reported that he died in his sleep. His daughter, Hope Mulbarger, confirmed Willard’s death in a sentence sent to NPR.

My father passed away very peacefully last night at the fantastic age of 86 years old. He kept moving, working, and making us happy until the very end. We loved him so very much!” Hope Mulbarger said to Fox News on Saturday. “We will miss him forever.

Fred Willard was born on September 18, 1939, and was “pretty sure” that he was born in Cleveland. His father died when he was only 12 years old. Willard’s stage career began when he moved to New York in the late 1950s. Later, he married “Mary Lovell” in 1968 and they had a daughter together named “Hope Mulbarger“. However, his wife died on July 13, 2018. Willard was nominated for Emmy Award four times in 2003, 2004 and 2005, for his role as Hank, the father of the Ray Romano character’s sister-in-law. He eventually won a Daytime Emmy for an outstanding guest performer for his work on the CBS soap opera “The Bold and the Beautiful.

Willard was a talented comic actor best known for his scene-stealing roles in Christopher Guest “Mockumentaries” including ‘This Is Spinal Tap’, ‘Best in Show’, ‘Anchorman’, ‘Austin Powers’, and ‘Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle’. Willard made a special guest appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, reprising his role from a 1970s television pilot for an unmade series called Space Force, in light of President Donald Trump’s announcement that he will create a space force for the United States military. Mr. Willard will appear as Steve Carrell’s father in the Netflix series “Space Force” later this month.
